One Offered Shoulder

I listen to you laugh and ridicule
Your smug righteous superiority
Thinking you know exactly whats going on
What you need to say to this poor misguided soul
That she's not only not loved
But laughed at
My mind fills with defensive questions
Have you ever loved?
Have you ever felt the sting of rejection?
Have you ever felt loss?
No...you must not have
How could you laugh
At anothers pain and confusion
I felt the tears and sadness
I have felt these emotions
In the painful corners of my soul
Memories and feelings I can't erase
Parts of my life that couldn't be fixed with miracles
Times in my life
Absolutely alone
No one understanding
No one to support me
When I came out of these angry lonely times
Feeling more full of bitterness
More mature
Never wanting to resemble the uncaring
Determined if I can ever be there for you
I'll always try
Knowing from past experiences
I might not always succeed
If I can help you feel a little less alone
I'll be happy with that
Only asking one thing from you
Somewhere down the road of your life
If you see someone lost and alone
Make an effort to be a friend
Maybe we can make this world
A warmer place
One offered shoulder to lean on at a time
