Hey I am new here and wondered if you could give me some basic info on getting a web page up and running..I am sort of new at all this and decided to be brave and venture out into the unknown. thanx

1. Register a domain name
A domain name is the name you type into the browser to get to a website. skemanon.com, twitter.com, so on and so forth. You do this through a registrar like NameCheap.

2. Get hosting
Websites are made up of files that a visitor's browser downloads and parses to display content, so "hosting" is basically a term for "computer that stores and executes the files/programs, and lets a browser see the results." Depending on what you need, you can pay anywhere from $4-$200/month, depending on what you need. HostGator has a pretty good package for low-resource websites.

3. Associate the domain with the host
Your host will probably have a guide on this. You need to point your domain name to your host's "nameserver." A name server usually looks like "ns1.host.com", and you need to give that information to the website where you registered the domain. That way, when people type in "yoursite.com", it'll take them to the site that you've uploaded via FTP.

Google the words you don't yet understand, that puzzle of "how websites work" in your brain.

Apparently I was referencing a class in a way that is incompatible with whatever version of PHP DH is using.

You can if you want. I need to work out the error handling, though, and write up something to resize images, right now they're limited to 300*300.

Do you need my preview file or do you have it? Most of my Screen shots are 551x333 or sumthing like that, will resize one.

I don't yet have any of the previewers up, but I'll get to them eventually. I also fully intend to make it so that full size images (within reason) can be uploaded, and resize them programatically.

I was just tossing the idea of re-launching Skem9. My original goal of writing a community is still there.
