SEE I KNOW SOME OF YOU KNOW THAT I CAN'T WORK OR PUT MY SELF INTO SCHOOL. BECAUSE OF MY SON HAVING SEIZURES. SO I WAS THINKING SINCE I HAVE A LOT OF TEENAGERS HERE IN MY DEVELOPMENT I WANTED TO START MAKING THESE JEWELRY OUT OF BEADS AND USING THE REXLACE WHICH IS THE PLASTIC STRINGS THAT STRETCH. YOU MAKE KEY CHAINS AND BRACELETS AND OTHER THINGS WITH THEM. BUT I KEEP ON THINKING AND WONDERING I NEED HELP TO START MAKING THEM. IS THIS A GOOD WAY OF DOING IT? I MEAN I KNOW I AM NOT WORKING AND I DON'T HAVE ANY MONEY TO BUT ALL OF THE PRODUCTS BUT HEY TO ME IT IS A START RIGHT? I JUST DON'T WANT TO STAY HOME AND DO NOTHING. I NEED SOME MOTIVATION. WHAT OTHER WAY CAN I DO THIS?

When I started this craft, I was gifted a large collection or beads and books on the subject from an encouraging friend. I have found that the best place to get beads is ebay. You can usually find whatever you need in bulk. Also another resource is "freecycle". Check your local chapter of freecycle and perhaps make your own posting asking if anyone has any beading supplies laying around that they have no use for. As with any hobby, beading does not come without an investment cost. It's well worth it though.

Also, once you get started, check your local shops. I have found a couple in my own neighborhood that allow bead work creators to sell their creations in their shops on consignment. Although, I admit, I have not gotten that far yet. In my limited personal time, my few beaded creations have ended up in my personal collection or gifted to friends. :)

Comment by Maranda on April 10, 2009 at 7:11am: If you could get the supplies that you need to start making this kind of jewelry, I think it would be a good idea especially if you live near a lot of teenagers. Maybe look around E Bay see if there is anyone selling lots of the type of stuff you would need for cheap and go from there.

Some people say bad things about schools online, but I have had no problems with going. I go to University of Phoenix Online, I receive financial aid, so this pays my tuition. I am going to school for am associates degree in Visual communications which is web design, so when I graduate I can work from home. I have been going to this online college for almost 2 years, I graduate in July :)

My daughter had 20 seizures in a one year period between the age of 17 months and 3 years. She had been on Tegretol till she was 5. They took her off it cause she had no more seizures. Four years later, she was diagnosed bipolar and is back ON the Tegretol for that. Double whammy. I hope everything works out for you. Hey, you can post your stuff here too. People like to buy stuff like that as gifts.
